Defining personal information
Personal information is any information that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual, and includes such information as a name, home address, home telephone number and email address. This information can include an individual’s opinions or beliefs, as well as facts about or related to the individual. Exceptions: employment contact information and certain publicly available information, such as names, addresses and telephone numbers as published in telephone directories, are not considered personal information.
General privacy practices
CivicAction does not automatically gather your personal information. You can access the 32 Campaign homepage and browse the content on our website without disclosing your personal data. Personal information is collected only when individuals provide such information on a voluntary basis. CivicAction collects personal information submitted through this website for use in communicating with you about the 32 Campaign and to respond to questions or comments. CivicAction may also make public your name, town/city and answer to the question “What would you do with 32?” and if you’ve ‘signed’ the “I pledge to get a move on” pledge. With your consent, and on your behalf, CivicAction may also forward your information on to elected officials. You have the opportunity to review the information being sent to elected officials (including name, email address, and physical address) before it is sent. Any additional personal information collected through this website is kept in confidence. Safeguards are in place to ensure that the information is not disclosed or shared more widely than is necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was gathered. All personal information you provide is protected under the Government of Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
Information collected by the Internet
The Internet automatically collects specific information from every website user, including those that visit the 32 Campaign website. This information, alone, cannot be used to identify you personally. This non-personal information includes:
* Your Internet Protocol (IP) address, a number automatically assigned to users’ computers when they visit websites.
* Your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
CivicAction is committed to ensuring that your information is secure. In order to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. Unfortunately, data transmission over the Internet can never be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we have undertaken every reasonable measure to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of the information you transmit to us. Please be aware that any and all information submitted to us is done at your own risk.
